ClodPi Labs - Hotspot - Getting Started

Let us start with ClodPi Lab’ - Hotspot - device setup:

Prerequisite:

User should first create Helium account profile and Wallet.

For Helium Wallet App, Wallet Creation OR Migration details, do refer:

User should be ready with these basic things:

  • Uninterrupted power supply
  • Uninterrupted internet connection.
  • A compatible smart mobile phone (Android / iOS) with an internet connection.
  • Download Helium Application from Apple Store or the Google Play Store depending on your phone OS, create Helium Profile.
  • Download Helium Wallet application and create wallet.
  • Have your 12 Words phrase securely noted down.
    !! DO NOT SHARE WITH ANYONE OR LOSE IT. YOU CAN’T RECOVER THE 12 WORDS PHARES IF LOST.!!

Note:

  • New users (who are trying to onboard their First Hotspot) need to first complete the Creating A New Wallet section.
  • Existing users (having already onboarded Hotspots & Helium wallet) need to first complete the Importing Existing Wallet section as per Solana Migration Guidelines.
  • Now user is ready with Helium Profile and Helium Wallet and can proceed with Helium Hotspot onboarding / Location assert process.

Steps to setup the device:

Perform below steps on your mobile:
  1. Open the Helium Wallet application (Black color).
  2. Login to the Helium Wallet Application
  3. Go to Settings (a Gear icon at top left right) and check “Solana Cluster” value should be “Mainnet-Beta”.
    Note: Create New Wallet (new user) / Import existing Wallet (existing user) process has to be already completed.
  1. Open the Helium application (Blue color).
  2. Login to the Helium Application
  3. Click: Link My Wallet

  1. Helium Wallet application will open (Black color).
  2. Click: Yes, Link my Wallet

  1. Helium App (Blue color) will open displaying below options:
    a) Add Hotspot page will be displayed if there no hotspots already added
    OR
    b) If there are Hotspots already added, then those will be listed.
  • Click “Settings” option (a gear like icon) at the bottom right on any of these pages.

  1. On Settings page: Check “Solana Cluster” value should be “Mainnet-Beta”.
  2. Click on 'Copy Helium Address" to copy your Helium Wallet Address.
    Note: A message at the bottom will be displayed saying address has been copied.

  1. Open link http://172.0.0.1 in any browser available on your smartphone.
    (a) On the login prompt, use the below credentials
  • Username: admin
  • Password: three-word-identifier-of-your-device

For example, if your device name is “Harsh Blood Mantis”, you can log in with

  • Username: admin
  • Password: Harsh Blood Mantis

Note: the password is case insensitive.

(b) You can also use the last 3 digits of the device serial number (printed on the back of the device) as the password.
For example, if your device serial is CPPH2112557, you can log in with

  • Username: admin
  • Password: 557

  1. A user interface as in the below screenshot will be displayed.

  1. Scroll down the page to view the Hotspot device details like Hotspot name, Wifi Mac, Ethernet Mac, IP etc. You can make note of these details.
  2. Paste the Wallet address in the “Enter your wallet address (from helium app)” box:
  3. Tap: Generate QR

  1. QR Code is generated and a button “Tap here to onboard” is available for proceeding with device onboarding process. Tap the button and the Device onboarding process will be triggered.

  1. Confirm Information: Following information about the device is displayed for user to confirm: Public key, MAC Address and Owner Address
    Tab “Next”

  1. Set Hotspot Location: Here users will be required to select the location of the device. Tap on “Ask for Permissions”.
    Note: This will allow the Helium app to locate your device current location.

  1. Location map will be displayed. Tap on the icon (highlighted in Orange - adjacent image) to allow the application to drop the location pin to your mobile set location.
  2. Set Location: The user needs to confirm the location of the device by tapping on the “Set Location” option.

IMPORTANT: It is very important to set the device location and Make sure to drop the location PIN very precisely to your location to avoid any location assert issues later.

  1. Antenna Setup: The user needs to click on ‘Helium Hotspot (EU 868)’ option

  1. Select Antenna pop up is displayed. Click on “Custom Antenna” option.

  1. Custom Antenna Setup pop up is displayed. Enter details as below:
  • TX / RX Gain: 3 dbi
  • Height (meters): 18
  • Tap “Next”

Note:
(a) Height: Users can enter height as per the location of the Antenna above from the ground level.

(b) Refer adjacent image.

  1. Location Fee: page will be displayed. A location assert activity has to be done by clicking on the “Submit” option. The location fee ($ 10) will be automatically taken care of for the first time.

  1. Registering: Depending on the blockchain network, the hotspot registration process can take up to 10 minutes to complete.

Note:

  • It takes approximately 15 minutes, sometimes a little more, for the Hotspot to complete the registration to the network. You can wait or You can close this screen.
  • You can check your hotspot updated information in the App after finishing this step.

Congratulations! Now, you can start monitoring the device on your Application.

FAQs:

1) How to change the Hotspot Location?

NOTE:

  • Interacting with the Solana blockchain requires a small fee (average transaction fee is 0.000014 SOL) paid in SOL tokens, which is massively cheaper than the original Helium blockchain transaction fee of $0.35 in DC.
    This small fee is equivalent to 5$ (USD) approximately. This is charged each time a hotspot location is updated. This is a network fee which must be paid, and is not charged by ClodPi labs.
  • SOL currency in your wallet will automatically be burned to provide the fee. If you do not have sufficient SOL currency in your wallet - then system will not allow the Location change transaction.

Step 1: Helium Application:

  • Open and Login to Helium app (Blue color)
  • Home page will be displayed
  • “Your Hotspot” screen will be displayed listing your hotspots
  • Tap on the Hotspot name for which you want to change the location

Step 2: Hostspot current Location:

  • Hotspot name with Location map will be displayed. Click on the three dots menu at right corner.

  • Following options will be displayed
    a) Copy Address
    b) Assert Location
    c) Transfer Hotspot
    d) Onboard Mobile Network

  • Tap: Assert Location

Step 3: Assert New Location:

  • Location map: will be displayed. Here user will be required to select the location of the device. Tap on the icon (highlighted in adjacent image) to allow the application to drop the location pin to your mobile set location.

Step 4: Set Location: The user needs to confirm the location of the device by tapping on the “Set Location” option.

IMPORTANT:

  • The app will use the GPS location of your device to place the marker pin on the map. Move the marker pin to the new location and tap Set Location.
  • It is very important to set the device location and Make sure to drop the location PIN very precisely to your location to avoid any location assert issues later.
    NOTE: You can assert the location of a hotspot remotely (you do not need to be physically close to the hotspot to update location) by either dragging the pin to the new location or tapping the magnifying glass at the top right of the map to search for the new location. Be sure the new location is correct before tapping “Set Location” as the map could revert back to your device’s GPS location periodically.

Step 5: Antenna Setup: The user needs to click on ‘Helium Hotspot (EU 868)’ option

Step 6: Select Antenna pop up is displayed. Click on “Custom Antenna” option.

Step 7: Custom Antenna Setup pop up is displayed. Enter details as below:

  • TX / RX Gain: 3 dbi
  • Height (meters): 50
  • Tap “Next”

Note:
(a) Height: Users can enter height as per the location of the Antenna above from the ground level.

(b) Refer adjacent image.

Step 8: Location Fee: page will be displayed. A location assert activity has to be done by clicking on the “Pay Fee & Submit” option. Make sure to have sufficient SOL currency in your wallet else “Pay Fee & Submit” button will not be enabled as shown in adjacent image.

Step 9: Registering: Depending on the blockchain network, the hotspot Location change transaction process can take up to 10 minutes to complete.

Note:

  • It takes approximately 15 minutes, sometimes a little more, for the Hotspot to complete the update on to the network. You can wait or You can close this screen.
  • You can check your hotspot updated information in the App after finishing this step.

2) How to transfer ownership of the Hotspot?

NOTE:

  • Ownership of a hotspot can only be transferred by the wallet which owns that hotspot on the blockchain (whoever has the private key/seed phrase of that wallet). ClodPi Labs has no way of transferring ownership of devices and cannot assist with 3rd party sales where the seller does not transfer ownership of the device.
  • In order to transfer ownership of a hotspot, the device must have performed some Proof of Coverage activity within the last 24 hours. This is a security measure implemented by the Helium network to prevent users from purchasing broken or non-working hotspots. There is no way to transfer ownership of a hotspot which has not performed any Proof of Coverage activity during last 24 hours.

Pre-requisites:

  • In order to successfully transfer ownership of a hotspot you must have the Helium Wallet App logged into the wallet which owns the hotspot in question. You will also need the receiving address (Solana address) of the target wallet to which you would like to transfer ownership.
    *Ask the recipient for his / her Solana address which can be copied from Helium Wallet app > Settings > Share Address > Solana tab > use Copy or Share and proceed with sharing the address.
  • **There is a nominal fee which is charged to transfer ownership of the device. This is a network fee which must be paid, and is not charged by ClodPi Labs. HNT in your wallet will automatically be burned to provide the 55,000 DC if you do not have sufficient Data Credits in your wallet - there are no additional steps needed for this burning process.

Step 1: Helium Application:

  • Open and Login to Helium app (Blue color)
  • Home page will be displayed
  • “Your Hotspot” screen will be displayed listing your hotspots
  • Tap on the Hotspot name for which you want to change the location

Step 2: Hostspot current Location:

  • Hotspot name with Location map will be displayed

  • Following options will be displayed
    a) Copy Address
    b) Assert Location
    c) Transfer Hotspot
    d) Onboard Mobile Network

  • Tap: Transfer Hotspot

Step 3: Transfer Hotspot screen

  • A screen with Hotspot name is displayed
  • Enter New Owner Address: enter the recipient Wallet Address
    (Be sure on the correctness of the address else the Hotspot transfer may go to wrong address.)
  • Button “Submit” is enabled (Button is in disabled state by default.)
  • Click: Submit

Step 4: Helium Wallet App

  • Helium Wallet App will open with new Wallet Address details
  • Check the address for correctness once again
  • Confirm button: Tap to submit the transfer transaction
  • After tapping “Confirm” you will navigate back to ClodPi Labs Hotspot App.
  • The transfer can take up to 30 minutes to process on the blockchain.

Step 5: Helium Explorer - Hotspot Transfer status:

  • After 30 minutes, check the hotspot’s page on the Helium Explorer.
  • If the transfer was successful, there should be a red “Transfer Hotspot” transaction listed in the activity pane.
  • Clicking on the transaction will show additional details. The hotspot is now transferred to its new wallet successfully!
